I might have been a wussy child, but I remember there being some pretty terrifying stuff in old children's cartoons, so for the heck of it I am putting together a list of some that really terrified me. Please share any that you had!

1. Sleepy Beauty :

2.An American Tale: (at about 2:40)

3. Adventures of Mark Twain

Sadly couldn't find clips for the freaky part in Secret of Nimh with the great owl. Or the terrifying russian cats at the start of an american tale, but you get the idea on these... cartoons now don't seem as terrifying somehow...

There is something completely unsettling about the cats in don bluth cartoons, I don't know, they just always seemed so monstrous, I am guessing he maybe hated cats. Always scared the hell out of me when I was young.

I was seriously scared of ursula in the little mermaid when I was young

even the disney versions are dummed down versions of the origional tales in which the little mermaid threw herself back into the sea when she found out the prine was married and it wasn't cinderellas glass slipper the prince was after if you get my meaning... they were all there to scare children from doing things like going into the woods after dark... kinda like the bible really (but that's a whole other conversation)

And now children get hannah montana and the jonas brothers to teach them what's right and wrong... hummm

Ursula was terrifying, I had forgotten (or blocked the memory) pretty much all the older Disney stuff was pretty traumatizing when the bad guy went into there final huge freaky form. Which they all seemed to do now that I think about it, I think Disney invented the most annoying trait of video game boss battles... hrm.

I loved all that stuff, but it terrified me, I enjoyed being scared out of my wits as a little one. My parents let me watch horror films way too much too, I don't think I really slept until I was a teen lol. Adventured of Mark Twain was a good one, I think I want to track down a copy of it as mine is long gone. I had another one called the talking parcel or something like that which had evil cockatrices (sp??) and werewolves in it that was also fantastically frightening.

stumbled on this article on cracked.com which actually reminded me of a few terrifying things I had apparently blocked from memory. Some good clips. http://www.cracked.com/article/160_7-horrifying-moments-from-classic-kids-movies/
