PostSubject: BBC television shows?   Wed May 20, 2009 10:17 am

Living in America I am in the victim of horrible television programming that is never funny, and sadly I have now watched every Might Boosh and It Crowd episode I can get my hands on. Wondering if anyone could recommend other good BBC programs for me to check out? I hate having to wait years for these things to maybe hit the states, and more often than not one of our networks just buys the idea and remakes the show into an incredibly unfunny American version. It's heartbreaking.
Thanks!
-M I love you

Anything with Rik Mayall and Adrian Edmonson is worth a view.

Also 'Only Fools and Horses' is a long running classic!

my god that's Drop Dead Fred! I couldn't place Rick Mayall for a while, but I knew those eyes! The childhood memories come flooding back! I used to have a huge crush on him when I was like 7.

if you like Rik Mayall, try Blackadder - any episode with Flasheart in - he's awesome!!

If you like the mighty boosh, try The Young ones - it's from the 80s and the boosh draws definite inspirations from there (Rik mayall is also in it too!!)

Definitely give Spaced (Jessica Hynes, Simon Pegg, Katy Carmichael, and Julia Deakin) and Black Books (Dylan Moran, Bill Bailey, Tamsin Greig, and Rosie Day) a try too. I checked on amazon and they're both available in region 1 although you may have to buy 2nd hand (or find them to stream on the web!)

Yerp, I need to watch more of black books, but I have a hard time getting episodes here. I really like that actore though, I forget his name. He is good at playing cranky though.

oh Dylan Moran?

Yeah he's great - you should try looking for some of his stand-up - he has a DVD called Monster that's brilliant

I had no idea he even did stand up, he is hilarious in everything I have seen him in. I will totally check that out!

Pretty much anyone you have seen from Britain (who is in a sitcom of recent years) is a standup - been that way since music hall and the 'club' scene died out.

If you need to know what i mean about the 'club scene' i suggest Peter Kay's Phoenix Nights

Ah, see that is pretty common in the US doing stand up before getting a show, but not always the way, didn't know it was really the way it is done there now. Good to know.

I'm a great fan of Doctor Who and also Torchwood, but when it comes to british comedy there is so much, obviously there have been some good mentions above with Bottom and other shows, but I like little britain, peep show and some of the old school stuff like the fast show and Reeves and mortimer just cracked me up!!

I too enjoy Doctor Who and Torchwood, although I have not seen very much. As to the other shows, I have seen Little Britain once but the rest I will have to check out. Thanks!
